Sick again. :( But! On the bright side, I am finally done with my final exams for this semester, so I get to be sick in peace, not worrying about studying or disturbing people. Isn't it terrible when you're that coughing, loud sniffly person during the silent tension of an exam? I just hate it.

I have a LOT of projects I want to tackle over the Christmas holiday, but I am starting to feel myself lose momentum. I really wanted to try actually writing and finishing a Dramione one-shot, but I am so scared to start. I mean, having no experience, it's bound to be terrible, isn't it? But I will never get better unless I start! But I don't want the [community profile] otterandferret gift exchange to be my first fic ever. (Since the two crack fics I wrote when I was thirteen, anyway.) I think the key is to get some practise in, and then find good betas.

In other news:

"For the rest of the year, creating a Dreamwidth account will not require an invite code: just visit the Create an Account page."

THIS EXCITES ME SO! Being such a Dreamwidth fangirl, I hope this makes it easy for people to switch over and see the light. :P

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT: this is adorable, and needs to be attempted.

Found it on Pinterest. :3

Dreamwidth - I think I'm in love with you.

Do we truly notice the (subtle) effect ads have on us? On LJ, those who are annoyed by ads resort to browser add-ins like Ad-block. It's not like you are stuck looking at movie advertisements forever. That's how I got by for a couple of years. And then I found Dreamwidth.

I was a bit skeptical at first. Dreamwidth's ideas sounded nice and all, but how did the implementation hold up? I did not want to pay for an account without having a little trial run first. So, I started stalking the code sharing community until I got lucky.

Holy. Bananas.

It's like a weight has been lifted off me that I was never aware of. I am not being peddled to, interrupted, or compromised. This space truly feels like my own. Plus, reading Dreamwidth's statements on transparency, long-term sustainability, diversity, and freedom of speech just make me want to shove all my money at them in approval. Ah, but I can't do that at the moment because they terminated their partnership with Paypal. Which, of course, they only did because they stand firm on their founding principles. I swear, I'm going to get myself a credit card just so I keep supporting!

Unfortunately, a lot of the fandom/fanfic exchange activity is still concentrated on LJ. One day they will see the light. After all, DW is still growing. Until then, I am happy to make this my main journal and use the crossposting feature copiously. :)
