It's been six years since I last did this. SIX YEARS.

Um, hi again, Dreamwidth. I've come to play for a bit. But shhh, don't tell my other responsibilities.

Ahhh, Steam sales. <3 I just wish my laptop could run more games. QuQ I can't play half the things I bought until I'm reunited with my gaming PC, lol. My two current obsessions: Audiosurf and Sequence!

If that doesn't convey the wonderful ridiculousness that is Sequence, I don't know what will. xD More on Sequence )

Can you believe there are only three days left in 2011!? It's crazy how fast the year goes by - and yet, when I look back at all that happened, it also feels like such a long stretch of time. Weeeeird.

Stuff on New Year's Resolutions ) I'll have to think about it some more. The popular ones are always things like "getting fit" and "learning one new thing every day", but I want to make sure I have one interesting, non-generic goal. How do people come up with their New Year's resolutions?

Ah, I was going to finally add doodles to my entries (because that's how I used to journal IRL, with random scribbles here and there), but I forgot to bring my tablet pen. So I have a tablet and no way to use it, lol. I'LL JUST HAVE TO RESORT TO CANNIBALISM OPTICAL MOUSE!

Like, this is what I was doing today:

Ah, I tried my best, but alas -- this looks more like I was slicing spaghetti on the floor, naked. Anyway, it's gotten so cold here, the doors are becoming frozen closed. I had to chip away at ice formed at the bottom of the door with a butter knife to open it. I think winter is finally coming, you guys. 8D

Sick again. :( But! On the bright side, I am finally done with my final exams for this semester, so I get to be sick in peace, not worrying about studying or disturbing people. Isn't it terrible when you're that coughing, loud sniffly person during the silent tension of an exam? I just hate it.

I have a LOT of projects I want to tackle over the Christmas holiday, but I am starting to feel myself lose momentum. I really wanted to try actually writing and finishing a Dramione one-shot, but I am so scared to start. I mean, having no experience, it's bound to be terrible, isn't it? But I will never get better unless I start! But I don't want the [community profile] otterandferret gift exchange to be my first fic ever. (Since the two crack fics I wrote when I was thirteen, anyway.) I think the key is to get some practise in, and then find good betas.

In other news:

"For the rest of the year, creating a Dreamwidth account will not require an invite code: just visit the Create an Account page."

THIS EXCITES ME SO! Being such a Dreamwidth fangirl, I hope this makes it easy for people to switch over and see the light. :P

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT: this is adorable, and needs to be attempted.

Found it on Pinterest. :3

Excited!

I finally got my AO3 invite, and a week earlier than they forecasted! Now, if only my Pinterest invite would come in too, haha. But good things come to those who wait. :P

Tomorrow, I am off to a whirlwind day of panellists and speakers. It's an event that focuses on women in SEMT fields (Science, Engineering, Math, Technology), and issues pertaining to that. I've always been interested in feminist issues, but I've never really educated myself on the subject (aside from the occasional article online - maybe that counts). So, I'm totally psyched for this. I've even got a shiny new spiral notebook for furious note-taking.

PLUS ITS FRIDAAAAAY. PARTAY TIEM. By which I mean, a good night's rest, probably. xD

I'm running around like a headless chicken because there's only one more day (and a few more hours) until NaNoWriMo 2011! AHHHHHHHHH

For anyone who doesn't know what I'm screaming about, here's the info from the official site. Basically, a bunch of crazy people attempt to write a 50k-word novel in the thirty days of November.

I really shouldn't be doing it, but that's never stopped anyone from trying, has it? I know I can't do 50k with all this schoolwork, soooo my word goal is 25k. (Novella!) But I'm caught up in deciding what I should write about. Should I use this as an opportunity to finally write the Dramione story I've been thinking about? Or should I continue with my plans to write a new, original story? Both options are so appealing. It might just come down to a coin flip.

In the meantime, I've been scouting out good writing locations, and drawing up imaginary schedules. November is going to be a crazy month.

Procrastination means MEME GAMES! Stolen from someone else :3

The instructions:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool... and a lot of the songs fit with the setting

Dreamwidth - I think I'm in love with you.

Do we truly notice the (subtle) effect ads have on us? On LJ, those who are annoyed by ads resort to browser add-ins like Ad-block. It's not like you are stuck looking at movie advertisements forever. That's how I got by for a couple of years. And then I found Dreamwidth.

I was a bit skeptical at first. Dreamwidth's ideas sounded nice and all, but how did the implementation hold up? I did not want to pay for an account without having a little trial run first. So, I started stalking the code sharing community until I got lucky.

Holy. Bananas.

It's like a weight has been lifted off me that I was never aware of. I am not being peddled to, interrupted, or compromised. This space truly feels like my own. Plus, reading Dreamwidth's statements on transparency, long-term sustainability, diversity, and freedom of speech just make me want to shove all my money at them in approval. Ah, but I can't do that at the moment because they terminated their partnership with Paypal. Which, of course, they only did because they stand firm on their founding principles. I swear, I'm going to get myself a credit card just so I keep supporting!

Unfortunately, a lot of the fandom/fanfic exchange activity is still concentrated on LJ. One day they will see the light. After all, DW is still growing. Until then, I am happy to make this my main journal and use the crossposting feature copiously. :)

Saw this in someone else's journal, and I love the idea. Like a running tally on the year, to be looked back upon in the future.
